A lack of library

My sister, "Do you have any books? I don't have anything to read."

This question brought me to the realization that my book collection is decidedly lacking, as most of the books I read are borrowed from the massive collection belonging Maia Gerlinger. I need to buy more books. I also need to be reading more. I read one and finished two half read books in Italy but I haven't read anything since; except for maybe one or two poems from the copy of "Rivers And Mountains" by John Ashbery that I just acquired while helping clear out the old apartment of my Dad's late friend and old boss from Warner Brothers. This feels like a huge waste to me. I don't know. Maybe it isn't. I've gotten a huge amount of recording and "rephotographing" done, although no video (except for that 9 minute hastily put together loopcentric thing for Susan), which also feels like a waste to me. I've also seen no movies (I think) and I need to see a lot more art than I do. There are much more important things to feel bad about than not absorbing enough culture; I should be looking up products made in China, and buying a solar powered charger for my chargeable electronics and other non-frivolous things. Everything I do in my life will probably be pretty frivolous. Oh well.

Things I have learned in Italy:

1. Nero was a faggot and did a bad job as emperor.

2. Always travel with people with disabilities.

3. Michelangelo sculpted the David from memory; he must have touched A LOT of men.

4. Rich Roman women were allowed to have affairs.

5. Adam Moskowitz does sound kind of like he has a British accent, although more like someone who does not speak English as their native tongue but was tought to speak it by a British person.

6. If you eat lunch in Italy, expect it to take up at least three times as much time as you initially think it will.

Walking down Washington Street earlier today a woman asked me if I had a minute for gay rights and just as the words "No, sorry" starting to come out of my mouth a voice in my head began shouting "Dead soldiers! Dead soldiers! Dead soldiers!" Dammit, my plan is ruined.

On a somewhat different note, I kind of hate the "Do you have a minute for gay rights?" method. "No, I cannot offer up a single minute out of the total 1440 in my day to gay rights." Way to make people feel bad. I mean I can't actually fault people for trying to effectively do their job (job doesn't seem like the right word here), but it does make saying no in an attempt to avoid explaning to them why you cannot set up some sort of monthly donation plan kind of awkward.

Fuck postcards, and fuck Hoboken, and especially fuck Hoboken postcards from the early to mid 1900s (except for that one with the bridge). This is a stupid essay prompt. All 2007 takers of U.S. History Two are lucky for not being shoved in a box. My essay is invalid, uninspired, and difficult to tie back to a bar using air conditioning as an ad campaign. This is also great to end the year before I have to apply to college with an essay that can't possibly be as good as the last one I had to turn in for this class. I should stop whining now and go back to my essay. If anyone has any ideas on how I can write a 750 word paper on how Hoboken was started as and turned back into a playground, getaway, and dwelling for the well off and wealthy, and then maybe a way to tie it back to the aforementioned air conditioning please please please let me know.

Too much things

The weather has been so amazing lately, and it is not helping the presence of school to be any less tedious than before (although, as always, I guess getting out at least 45 minutes early almost everyday does help a bit). I can't deal with math. It is not difficult but it is difficult to concetrate, and at this point I think I have more work to make up by tomorrow than Maia has french homework to do (okay, maybe that's an overstatement); this is making me fear for my applying to colleges next year. So many people have a accomplished so much more than I have by now, and undoubtedly they, along with countless others, all have better grades than I do. I guess if James gets into Hampshire then maybe I can stop worrying. On the other hand I don't have the brilliant personal essay writing skills he does, nor the amazing material of an elf and major disaster obsessed anxiety therapist to draw from. I also would not lie and say that The Brothers Karamazov is one of my favorite books (I will never get over this).

I NEED TO READ MORE BOOKS.

The soap in the bathroom smells oddly of tea,
here is a list of movies that I need to see:

INLAND EMPIRE (it's been how many months since I bought this?)
Dancer In The Dark
Julian Donkey Boy
Cache
Mullholland Drive
Eraserhead
The Devil And Daniel Johnston
Elephant
Tales From The Gimli Hospital
Dogville
Hedwig And The Angry Inch (so tragically stolen from the doorstep of the Gerlinger household)

And if any of you have any suggestions as to where I should take this ridiculous little piece of work, that would be delightful: <lj-embed id="4" />

Jop: Yeah, but what do you do with porn music?
Drew: Well, we were told: Don’t be too interesting.
Martin: He was like, “The action is the sex. Do not distract from the action.”
Jop: Which music always does for me.
Martin: Yeah, I never—you always turn it down.
Drew: We had some fun. We embedded some really nasty stuff into some of the music. Kind of as a fun little, you know, esoteric little secret for ourselves. I looped a voice from a documentary where a holocaust survivor is describing the nightmares that he has and his voice is going, “I’m dying, I’m dying.” I flipped it backwards and I have it get louder and louder and louder throughout this one sequence. “.gniyd m’I, gniyd m’I”
It sounds really kind of hot, but it’s actually like this completely appalling thing.
